Senior Class Award

An award is given to the Senior Class President, Senior Class Vice President, Senior Class Secretary and Senior Class Treasurer

 

Challenge Program Award - Community Service

These awards are presented to seniors for Community Service, Academic Improvement, Attendance, Academic Excellence and STEM

 

David A Glosser Memorial Scholarship

The intent of this fund is to benefit the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown scholarship fund

 

David and Florence Herring Award

This scholarship is awarded to a student who is majoring in Business or Communications.  The recipient is chosen by the family based on which eligible seniors will be majoring in Business and/or Communications.

 

David A Rizzo Soccer Sportsperson of the Year Scholarship

The intent of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a soccer player who exemplifies true sportsmanship.

 

GJEA Honorarium Award

This award is presented by the GJEA to a student whose parent(s) is a teacher at Greater Johnstown School District and who plans to attend college after graduation

 

Hollis Family Scholarship

The intent of this fund is to provide an endowment which will provide a scholarship to a deserving minority academic student who is a graduating student from a high school in Cambria or Somerset County and has been accepted to a college or university

 

Homer D Rice Sportsmanship Award

The intent of this fund is to provide a scholarship award to one male and one female student-athlete graduating from Greater Johnstown High School who exemplifies the values Homer Rice ascribed to in his athletic endeavors, such as good sportsmanship

 

InShore Technologies Scholarship

The intent of this fund is to provide an annual scholarship(s) to student(s) from various high schools.  The recipient shall be determined by the various high schools and while a preference for students interested in the field of technology and those attending Mount Aloysius College will be considered, it is not required for student(s) to receive the scholarship(s).

 

Jimmy L Kist Memorial Scholarship

The intent of this fund is to award one or more scholarship(s) to a graduating senior student(s) at Greater Johnstown High School in memory of educator Jimmy L Kist

 

Johnstown Area Music Scholarship

The intent of this fund is to assist a student in the pursuit of an education in music.  Students from the following schools are eligible for this scholarship: Bishop McCort High School, Conemaugh Valley High School, Ferndale Area High School, Greater Johnstown High School, Richland High School, and Westmont Hilltop High School

 

Ken and Ann Horoho Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to one female and one male student who display good community service and involvement.  The scholarship recipient is chosen by the JHS Scholarship committee.

 

Kiwanis Club Scholarship

This fund provides two scholarships supporting students at Greater Johnstown High School:  the Key Club Scholarship and the John Ayres Memorial Scholarship

 

Marlene J. Sipe Award

Provides scholarship awards for deserving students from Greater Johnstown High School with unmet financial need who plan to attend the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown

 

Michael Francis Carey Scholarship

The intent of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a graduating senior from Greater Johnstown High School, who exhibits financial need, who will be pursuing a post-secondary education at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, who intends to attend the University of Pittsburgh Main Campus for their remaining two years

 

Penn Highlands Board of Trustees Scholarship

The intent of this fund is to provide a scholarship to Pennsylvania Highlands Community College for a senior from Greater Johnstown High School, and is selected by Pennsylvania Highlands

 

TCAP/Jacob Fend Foundation

This fund provides scholarship support for a graduating senior from Greater Johnstown High School who will be pursuing a post-secondary education, and is 17 years of age

 

TCAP/Pitt Johnstown Partnership

This fund provides scholarship support for a graduating senior from Greater Johnstown High School who will be pursuing a post-secondary education at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown

 

Steve Purich Scholarship

Provides scholarships to students from the following school districts:  Greater Johnstown, Ferndale Area, Conemaugh Valley, Westmont Hilltop, and/or Richland Area

 

Tim Guyer Award

This award is given to students who will be majoring in education

 

Top Ten Academic Awards

These awards are given to students at Johnstown High School who are in the top ten of their class

 

William E Gruver Music Scholarship

This scholarship is in honor of Management Professor Bill Gruver, holder of the Howard I. Scott Chair in Global Commerce, Strategy & Leadership at Bucknell.  The scholarship is awarded to students based on financial need

Aaron Coyle Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended for a member of the Greater Johnstown High School graduating class in remembrance of Aaron Coyle, a member of the graduating class of 2001, who was murdered one evening in Moxham before he could graduate.  The scholarship is presented to a senior whose life exemplifies the noblest of human values:  faith, hope, love, and friendship, and in recognition of his or her willingness to give of one's time, energy, and talents to affirm the goodness of life.  This is not an academic award.  Online applications only can be accessed and completed at

Johnstown High School Class of 1959 Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended for the Greater Johnstown High School salutatorian, as long as they are attending an accredited post-secondary institution of learning, not limited to a college or university.

 

Kamnikar Award

This $2000 scholarship is intended for a graduating senior at Greater Johnstown High School who has the highest class rank according to GPA, and has also lettered in a sport during their high school career.  Selection is to be handled by school district committee members.  

 

Academic Alumni Scholarship

The intent of this fund is to provide scholarships to JHS graduates who wish to further their education in a college, university or technical school.  A group of teachers, both active and retired, established this fund in 1997.  Caring graduates of JHS contribute monies for this fund.

 

Camp PARC Helping Hand Scholarship

This $1000 scholarship is intended for a student who served as a Junior Counselor, Peer Buddy, Childcare Counselor, Resident Staff Assistant, or a combination of these positions, for a minimum of two years, for the duration of any of the camping sessions at Camp PARC in addition to or including the summer in which they apply for the scholarship.  Online applications only can be accessed and completed at

Robert Forquer Memorial Scholarship

Daniel and Marcia Glosser Scholarship

This $1000 scholarship is intended for a student who exhibits excellence in studies, has concern for others and who is involved in some form of community service.  A prime requirement of the student is a good moral character, evidence by a positive moral influence on others.  The student must be a full-time student at Greater Johnstown High School, one who works to the best of his/her ability, and maintains a B average or better.  With the foundation of an education in the Greater Johnstown School District, the student should be planning to further his/her education in a college, university, or a two-year trade school.  Selection shall be determined by the Foundation's Academic Alumni Committee

 

Dr John Melleky Memorial Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is in memory of Dr. John Melleky, a lifelong teacher and administrator of the Greater Johnstown School District.  The scholarship is available to a student at GJHS who resides in the Oakland, Walnut Grove or Stonycreek Township areas, is pursuing a college education, and demonstrates financial need and academic potential.  

 

Elbert and Lillie Mae Jones Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended for an African-American graduating senior, who is an average or better student, and will attend an accredited post-secondary school.  Students must be a member of the Minority Scholars Club.  The club will provide applications and make selections.

 

Eleanor and Carlton Haselrig Family Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended for a deserving minority student who is achieving satisfactory progress toward graduation according to school policy and is pursuing a higher education.  Student must be a member of the Minority Scholars Club.  The club will provide applications and make selections.

 

Elizabeth L. Brawley Nursing Scholarship Fund

This scholarship provides three $1500 scholarships to graduating student(s) who plan to attend the nursing program at the University of Pittsburgh, University of Pittsburgh/Johnstown, Mount Aloysius College, St. Francis College or the Conemaugh School of Nursing.  Online applications only can be accessed and completed at

Jack Buchan, Sr./Trojan Stadium Award

This $1000 scholarship is for

  • A Johnstown High School graduating football player who has been accepted into a post-secondary educational institution
  • Has exhibited an outstanding performance in the stadium
  • Has made significant contributions to the team
  • Has performed with distinction in the classroom
  • Has exhibited leadership, good character, sportsmanship and financial need as determined by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency
 
The recipient shall be selected by the High School football coaching staff, the athletic director, the High School principal, the superintendent, and a member of the Johnstown High School Alumni Association as selected by the donor as long as the donor is able.

 

Janet Bala Anthony Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended for a senior at Greater Johnstown School District who is pursuing a post-secondary education, and is intending to major in education with a concentration in English.

 

Jennifer Hege Demuth Memorial Scholarship

This $1000 scholarship is intended for a graduating senior at Greater Johnstown School District who is ranked 10th in the class.

 

Jim Janak Memorial Student Athlete Award

This $500 scholarship is in memory of Jim Janak, who excelled in sports.  It recognizes outstanding high school athletes from Cambria County and supports their academic pursuits.  Eligible applicants must have lettered in two high school sports, display a strong work ethic in their sports and classroom, demonstrate teamwork, loyalty and selflessness when dealing with others, and have a GPA or 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale.  Online applications only can be accessed and completed at

Johnstown Football Reunion Association Scholarship

This $1000 scholarship is intended to provide financial aid to graduates of Greater Johnstown High School who participated in the football program as either a player, manager, or trainer and who intends to obtain a post-secondary degree or certificate from accredited education institutions, with a preference being given to students of Pennsylvania-accredited educational institutions.  Online applications only may be accessed and completed at

Johnstown High School Class of 1957 Scholarship

This $250 scholarship is intended for a senior student at Greater Johnstown School District who will be attending either the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown or Pennsylvania Highland Community College.  The winner must have a GPA of at least 3.0 or higher and demonstrate financial need.  Selection shall be determined by the school district committee using their knowledge of the student body.

 

Johnstown High School Class of 1950 Scholarship

This $220 scholarship is intended to provide an annual scholarship to a deserving senior of Greater Johnstown High School who plans to further his or her education in post-secondary studies (college, trade or technical school).  The student must carry a C or better grade average and exhibit dire financial need

 

Johnstown High School Class of 1955 Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended for one Greater Johnstown High School student in good academic standing who participates in community service and has unmet financial need.

 

Larry J. McGiboney Music Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended to provide at least one senior student at a local high school, with preference given to a Windber High School student, and/or a student of Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 6, who plans to attend college with a major in music.  Online applications only can be accessed and completed at

Loretta Stumpo Memorial Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended for a student who

  • Plans to attend an accredited four year college or university to study education
  • Has financial need as determined by the school
  • Provides the guidance office with a written paragraph on the subject "Why I want to make a career in Education."
  • In the event of multiple candidates, the guidance office shall recommend a preferred candidate

 

Margaret M. Mekis Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended to provide a Greater Johnstown High School graduating senior with a scholarship to attend a two or four year post-secondary accredited institution of their choice.  The recipient of the scholarship will be a student who shows fairness in dealing with peers, shows a willingness to serve others and demonstrates a strong work ethic.  Paper applications are provided.  Selection shall be determined by the school district committee.

 

Marie and Frank Slabe Scholarship

This $2000 scholarship is intended for a student who

  • Is in the top 10% of his/her graduating class
  • Participates in school or community activities
  • Plans to attend a four year undergraduate college or university with a preference given to someone pursuing a liberal arts degree

Selection shall be determined by the Foundation's Academic Alumni Committee

 

McCready Family Scholarship

Robert B and Frances C Hornick Family Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended for a student who meets the following criteria

  • Is a graduating student
  • Proof of acceptance to any campus in any program of the University of Pittsburgh
  • Grade point average of 3.0 or better (based on a 4.0 system)
  • Essay of your choice or submit an essay that has already been written for a school assignment, a College application, or a research paper but should be a work of which you are proud and reflective of your ability to write in a well-organized and insightful manner.  In other words, yo do not have to compose another essay for this application, but please do also indicate on the essay the purpose for which it was written

Robert E and Theodore R Shahade Scholarship

This $1000 scholarship was created to provide a minimum of one annual scholarship award to a student who plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown campus.  Eligible applicants

  • Must be a resident of the Greater Johnstown region
  • Applicants must be a graduating senior from either Greater Johnstown High School, Westmont Hilltop School District, or a member of the St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Johnstown, with preference given to the church member
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Have financial need

Ron DiBuono-Don Gallucci Friendship Award

This $220 scholarship is intended to provide funding to a graduating senior from Greater Johnstown High School whose actions typify the friendship toward others that Ron DiBuono and Don Gallucci exhibited during their school, athletic and professional careers, and especially towards each other.  In selecting a student, it is the families' wishes that the student be involved with school and outside activities and be a well-rounded-person who is caring towards others.

 

Ronald S. Rivera Scholarship

This $950 scholarshp is intended for a graduating senior of Greater Johnstown High School intending to major in the field of business.

 

Ryan Carosi Memorial Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended for a graduating senior from Greater Johnstown High School who will be pursuing post-secondary vocational or technical education.  Online applications only can be accessed and completed at

Sgt. 1st Class Raymond Richard Buchan Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship may be awarded for various amounts and to multiple students.  To be eligible, students must

  • Have a parent, sibling or grandparent who has honorably served or is currently serving in any branch of the Armed Forces or he/she has signed a written obligation to serve in any branch of the military
  • Candidates will be judged on extracurricular school activities, community service, citizenship, participation in leadership programs such as Outdoor Odyssey, employment history and a mandatory essay
  • Must provide proof that parent, sibling, or grandparent has honorably served or is currently serving; if you are joining the military, please provide documentation of your written service obligation.

Steve J Terebus Memorial Scholarship

This $220 scholarship is intended for a student in good scholastic standing, who has a demonstrated talent in some form of athletics, and is in need of financial help and intend to further his or her education following high school.

 

Sunnehanna/Eddie Vetock Scholarship

This scholarship is intended for Sunnehanna Country Club employees, caddies, or children of Sunnehanna Country Club employees.  The scholarship should be for post-secondary education.  To be eligible, the employee or caddie must have been employed for at least two years.

Walter F. Mitchell St. Memorial Scholarship

This $500 scholarship is intended for students who

  • Electrical engineering major preferred (if there are not electrical engineering applicants, the award will be based on financial need)
  • Must attend 4 year accredited school
  • Grade point average of 3.0 or better (based on 4.0 system)
  • Participation in extracurricular and community activities
  • Financial need will be taken into consideration

Wilfred Jr. and Karen (Brandon) Carter Scholarship

The intent of this fund is to provide for a deserving, African-American male or female student from Greater Johnstown High School with financial support during their first year and second year of college.  The award will honor students who excel in the classroom, model admirable leadership, and serve their community.  Eligible applicants must have attained a cumulativ high school GPA of at least 3.0 on an un-weighted scale and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better during their first year of college.  A personal statement of 750 words must be submitted, demonstrating the candidate's leadership abilities, community involvement, and service.
