THE SPIRIT OF GIVING

By Dr. Barbara Parkins, Superintendent

In this season of giving, our students, staff and administration have truly embraced the ideal of lending a helping hand.  Here are just a few of the many examples:

  • East Side Elementary students helped veterans plant hundreds of American Flags at the building’s entrance in honor of Veteran’s Day.
  • West Side Elementary students raised money for the American Heart Association, breast cancer awareness, the area Humane Society and also assisted a local family dealing with the loss of a family member.
  • High School football players and cheerleaders served as positive role models for elementary students during the 12th annual Lights On event at East Side.
  • Middle School students sold 9-11 T-shirts to raise funds for the women’s Help Center, Thanksgiving dinners for the less fortunate, the Salvation Army’s Christmas Treasures program, and to help a local family in the aftermath of a house fire.
  • The Key Club participates in the Reading Buddies programs at East Side and West Side which focuses on improving elementary students’ reading skills with the help of a role model and buddy.
