Trojans Track team off to 2 - 2 start.
Coach Barron's Boys and Girls track teams are off to a competitive and fast start to the Spring 2012 track season. In the first two weeks of the Spring season the track teams have faced some traditional powers in the LHAC and have come out swinging for the fences, showing that the Trojans will be a force to come this year.
The girls led by 4 year letterwinners Vicki Smothers and Lovazia Henry as well as some talented underclassmen have raced out to a solid start by blowing past Bishop Carroll and falling to traditional LHAC power Somerset in the first meet of the season. In the 2nd meet of the season, the Lady Trojans doubled up Penn Cambria 100 to 50 but again fell in a tough contest to another traditional power, Westmont. Vicki Smothers was a triple winner for the lady Trojans winning the 100M, 200M and the 4x400M relay.
On the Men of Troy side, they also have had some impressive showings early in the year. The Men of Troy split both meets similar to their female counterparts by defeating the same teams as the girls. In the first meet of the season the boys beat up on the Huskies of Bishop Carroll and lost a tight contest to Somerset. In the second meet of the season the Trojans beat Penn Cambria for the first time in 7 years and fell to the Hilltoppers in another tight contest. The Men of Troy were led by DaQuan Minter, Phillip Madison, & Elijah Haselrig, all winners in running events, and Brock Eisenhuth & Isaiah Triplie in the field events.
The Boys and Girls track teams face more stiff competition this week as the travel to Sidman to face the Rangers of Forest Hills and the Rams of Richland. The girls will compete on Wednesday followed by the boys on Thursday. Good Luck to both teams.
The “Men of Troy” outrun Central Cambria
The “Men of Troy” used an explosive 2nd half fast break to pull away from the pesky Red Devils of Central Cambria in Ebensburg. The Trojans played well in the 1st half but the Devils wouldn’t go away as they knocked down four 3-point shots in the half to keep it close early on but they couldn’t keep up that pace as the Trojans forced numerous turnovers and tough shots that led to their exciting fast break which was highlighted by 3 Dwight Andrews slam dunks on the night. Andrews pumped in 19 points on the night. Mark Watson got out early and often on the break in the 2nd half to lead the charge as he dished out 11 assists on the night. He also chipped in with 13 points. Alkwan Williams again dominated the boards and ignited the Trojan fast break with 13 rebounds and led the Trojans in scoring with 20 points. Snoop Haselrig got his first action of the season after coming back from a knee injury. Snoop scored 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The Trojans moved to 6 – 1 on the season.
