Boys Basketball (Junior High) News
Trojans Tame the Panthers
The Trojan Junior High boys handled the pressure of their first road game in convincing fashion against the Penn Cambria Panthers Thursday night in Gallitzin. The Trojans battled the Panthers back and forth in the first half and overcame a cold shooting night to win 39-24. Shaquan Reid was unstoppable, dominating the point around the hoop and finished with a career high 20 points and 8 rebounds. Aj Fisher was hot from behind the arc, going 3 for 3 from 3 to finish with 9 points. The Trojans shook off their road game nerves and finished strong for the victory.
Trojans Quiet the Huskies in Opener
The Johnstown Junior High Trojan Boys opened up the 2011-2012 season in winning fashion with a 54-21 victory over visiting Bishop Caroll at West Side Elementary. The Trojans pressure was too much for the Huskies to handle as the Trojans opened the game on an 8-0 run. The defensive pressure and full court press rattled the opposition and that left to many easy transition buckets for the Trojans.
Point guard Kevin "Wu" Brandon led all scores with 12 points and controlled the offense. AJ Fisher and Shareek Malcolm paced the Trojans with 7 and 8 points respectively. Shaquan Reid, Zack Shearman, and Jeremy Updyke contributed with 6,4, and 5 points. The Trojans bench also provided a spark with Xavier Johnson, Devin Karafla-Jordan, and Tyrell Jones scoring 4 points a piece.
Trojans size, speed to much for Rangers
The Johnstown Boy's Junior High team picked up a big Laurel Highlands victory against visiting Forest Hills Monday night at West Side Elementary. The Trojan boys were looking to avenge last years loss to the Rangers, and did so by a score of 40-35. The Trojans trailed 2-0 after the opening tip but never fell behind again as they controlled the whole game with suffocating defense, rebounding, and teamwork.
The Trojans' Shaquan Reid and Jeremy Updyke reached double digits in scoring with 17 and 11 points respectively. Shaquan, Zack Shearman, and Tyrell Jones were a force inside dominating the glass and rebounding the basketball, as their size was too much for the Rangers. Trojan point guard Kevin"Wu" Brandon added 5 points and 4 assists as the Trojans reached 3-0 on the young season heading into the Christmas break and Westmont tournament, where they look to defend their championship title from a year ago.
