Isabella Cacicia lost in the third round to the #4 seed from Richland.  In doubles competition Rebecca Zajdel and Kendra Slis lost in the second round to the #4 seeded team from Richland.  Clare Svirsko and Isabella Cacicia were seeded second in the district tournament and reached the quarterfinals before losing Westmont 4-6, 7-6, 6-4.

The letter winners this year are Seniors- Clare Svirsko, Isabella Cacicia, Juniors-Kendra Slis, Rebecca Zajdel, Annie Tomak, Amanda Vantroba, Sophomore- Abbie Graham, and Freshmen-Amber Schnupp and Kristen Rogers.  Our most valuable player was Clare Svirsko in the Laurel Highlands League.

The Girls Tennis team would like to thank you, Mr. Cobaugh, Mrs. Cobaugh, Mr. Verbano, and all of the administration for all their help.  The girls’ team continued to improve from last year with every match being competitive, hopefully we will continue to improve and be even more successful next year.

Girls Tennis Win is Long Overdue

The girls’ tennis team won their first match of the season over Somerset 4-1 on Wednesday.  Clare Svirsko defeated Sydney Geary 6-2, 6-1 for her eighth win of the year.  At #2 singles Isabella Cacicia defeated Hope Brock 6-2, 6-1.  Rebecca Zajdel sealed the match with a victory over Baily Stinebiser 6-0, 6-7, 6-2.

The fourth victory of the match was a win at #2 doubles by Amanda Vantroba and Kristen Rogers as they defeated Brenna Sawyers and Sara Weaver 5-7, 7-6, 11-9.

The girls have worked very hard with long hours as they have had many close matches all year, coming ever so close to that elusive 1st win.  The resilient Trojans, with a great team effort, did not let this win get away.  The girls never gave up and have always given their best effort to represent Johnstown in a manner that would make anyone proud to be a Trojan.

The girls’ tennis team will have senior day on Wednesday Oct. 12 against Somerset at Roxbury Park.  Come to cheer on the girls in their final home match of the season and the seniors final home match of their high school careers!

Svirsko remains unbeaten as Trojans remain winless

The JHS girls tennis team lost another close match to Richland at home on Monday.  Our team continues to get consistant play from our #1 spot as Clare Svirsko remains unbeaten.  Clare defeated Hannah Lusko 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 10-5.  Our second doubles team of junior Amanda Vantroba and freshman Amber Schnupp defeated the team of Hernandez and Kinley 6-3, 6-2.  Even though our record is 0-5, I believe our team is improving with each match.  Three of our five matches were lost by 3-2 scores.  The girls spirits remain high and they will continue to do their best each match.
