Trojans Boys & Girls Track take 2 of 3 in Bedford
The Boys Track Team continued on their winning ways. The boys beat Cambria Heights and Bishop Guilfoyle, while dropping a close one to Bedford. This was Johnstown’s first win against Cambria Heights since 2005. The boys are now only one win away from clinching their first winning season since 2005 and only their second winning season since joining the LHAC in 2001. Individual winners include: DaQuan Minter(100m)(200m)(Long Jump)(4x100), Gervon Simon(4x100), Malik Walker(4x100), Jayvon Braxton(4x100), and Brock Eisenhouth(Shot Put) The Boys record is 5-4.
The Girls Track Team had an outstanding day on the track. The Girls beat Cambria Heights and Bishop Guilfoyle, while losing a very close battle with Bedford. Freshman TaShauna Smith broke the school record in the 400meter dash, running it in a time of 60.24 seconds. Individual winners include: Victoria Smothers(100m)(200m)(4x100), Lovazia Henry(300Hurdles)(4x100), TaShauna Smith(400m)(4x100), and Kristen Rogers(1600)(3200). The Girls record stands at 4-5.
Trojans Track team off to 2 - 2 start.
Coach Barron's Boys and Girls track teams are off to a competitive and fast start to the Spring 2012 track season. In the first two weeks of the Spring season the track teams have faced some traditional powers in the LHAC and have come out swinging for the fences, showing that the Trojans will be a force to come this year.
The girls led by 4 year letterwinners Vicki Smothers and Lovazia Henry as well as some talented underclassmen have raced out to a solid start by blowing past Bishop Carroll and falling to traditional LHAC power Somerset in the first meet of the season. In the 2nd meet of the season, the Lady Trojans doubled up Penn Cambria 100 to 50 but again fell in a tough contest to another traditional power, Westmont. Vicki Smothers was a triple winner for the lady Trojans winning the 100M, 200M and the 4x400M relay.
On the Men of Troy side, they also have had some impressive showings early in the year. The Men of Troy split both meets similar to their female counterparts by defeating the same teams as the girls. In the first meet of the season the boys beat up on the Huskies of Bishop Carroll and lost a tight contest to Somerset. In the second meet of the season the Trojans beat Penn Cambria for the first time in 7 years and fell to the Hilltoppers in another tight contest. The Men of Troy were led by DaQuan Minter, Phillip Madison, & Elijah Haselrig, all winners in running events, and Brock Eisenhuth & Isaiah Triplie in the field events.
The Boys and Girls track teams face more stiff competition this week as the travel to Sidman to face the Rangers of Forest Hills and the Rams of Richland. The girls will compete on Wednesday followed by the boys on Thursday. Good Luck to both teams.
Wyatt Ties Girls’ Record as Girls’ Team Moves Record to 6-3
The girls team has clinched their first winning season since 2004 as they defeated Cambria Heights and Bishop Guilfoyle in a 4-Team meet at Bedford. Individual winners include Chartice Wyatt, Jacinda Berry, Tyneshia Smith, Victoria Smothers, Lovazia Henry, and Elizabeth Chobaney. Also, Congratulations to Chartice Wyatt for tying the school record in the 400 meter dash which was set back 1996.
Girls Track Improves to 3 - 1 in LHAC
The Lady Trojans Track and Field team improved to 3-1 in conference meets. The team upset the Richland Rams for the Trojans first ever victory over the Lady Rams. The 3-1 start is the best in school history. Chartice Wyatt led the way as she broke her own school record in the triple jump.
Lady Trojans Track Team Off to a Fast Start Against Penn Cambria & Westmont Hilltop
Chartice Wyatt helped started the Girls Track team get off to their first 2 - 0 start in several years by placing first in the 400M dash, the Triple Jump, the Long Jump, and as the first leg in the 4x100M Relay. Other members of the 4x100M relay were Lovazia Henry, Tynesha Smith, & Victoria Smothers. Other First place finishers were Tynesha Smith (Shot Put & Discus), Chelsey Meyers (High Jump), and the 4x400 relay team of Brandi Young, Elizabeth Chobaney, Jenna Lindrose, & Lovazia Henry. This was the Lady Trojans first ever win over the Lady Hilltoppers from Westmont.
