TROJANS CLINCH SHARE OF LHAC CROWN
For the first time since joining the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference in 2001, the Trojans are officially conference champions. The Trojans have clinched a share of the LHAC conference title with Forest Hills, whom the Trojans will play Friday night in Sidman. Due to LHAC rules on how champions are designated, the Trojans will have to settle for a share of the conference crown similar to last year were they beat Forest Hills last year and still were still considered the 2nd place team in the conference.
On Friday night the Trojans left no doubt that they wanted a piece of the LHAC title by thumping the visiting Bishop Carroll Huskies, 45-15. The Trojans were again led by the dynamic RB duo of Tim Odum and Javon Vuckovich. Tim Odum ran for 158 yards and 1 touchdown on only 11 carries. Odum averaged a whooping 14 yards a carry on the night. Javon Vuckovich only touched the football twice but made both of his carries count as he demonstrated an unbelievable combination of speed and power as he powering his way to a 40 yard touchdown on the Trojans first drive of the game and on their second drive he burst through a hole, outrunning defenders, sprinting to a 59 yard touchdown to put the Trojans up 14-3. Vuckovich finished with 2 carries for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns. DaQuan Minter also had a big night offensively hauling in 4 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown to help balance out the offense for the Trojans.
On the defensive side of the ball The Husky offense threatened to score once early and then put up two late touchdowns late once the game was well in the Trojans favor. After a long scamper by a Husky running back, which Mark Watson ran him down from behind to keep him out of the endzone, the Trojans held the Huskies to a Field Goal and that was the last sliver of hope the Bishop Carroll had for a touchdown until the Trojans started to empty their bench. The dominating linebacker of Alkwan Williams, 11 tackles, and Dalvin Williams, 12 tackles, along with the defensive line gave the Huskies little to no room to run. The Huskies only attempted 3 passes, completing 1, most likely out of fear of the Trojans ball hawking secondary. Coming into Friday Nights game the pair of Mark Watson and Alex Merrimen were atop the area interception lead with 5 picks apiece.
