Tony Penna, Jr.

Coach Penna Jr. is back for his 2nd year, as Head Coach, of the Johnstown Trojans after leading them to a 10 win season and their 3rd straight District VI AAA Championship.  The Trojans posted a 10 – 2 record in Coach Penna Jr’s 1st season at the helm that included 8 straight wins to start the season, a huge win over a previously undefeated Forest Hills team, and a win over Osborne St rival Bishop McCort at the Trojans’ old home, The Point Stadium and.

Coach Penna Jr. returned to Johnstown after leaving for one year to take the Head Coaching Job at nearby Ferndale High School. He started his coaching career 17 years ago at Greater Johnstown Vo-Tech where he remained on the staff from 1996 to 2001. From there he joined Coach Bob Arcurio’s first staff here at Johnstown in 2002 as the Offensive Line Coach and then became the offensive coordinator in 2005 before leaving for Ferndale to be the Yellow Jackets head coach in 2009.  Penna Jr’s coaching career includes being the head coach of the fledgling Johnstown River Hawks arena professional football team in 2007.

In Coach Penna Jr’s 1st season as head coach, he was instrumental in several astonishing feats in the Trojans’ record books.  Calvin Anderson reached Pennsylvania AAA 1st team All-State honors to continue the recent trend of Trojan players that have achieved that honor.  Also under Coach Penna, Trojan Quarterback Gervon Simon set a Johnstown High single-game record for passing yards with 402 yards in Johnstown’s regular season finale over an undefeated Forest Hills team that was the unofficial conference championship game.

Coach Penna Jr. graduated from Greater Johnstown Vo Tech in 1992 where he participated in football, wrestling and baseball. Coach Penna Jr. went on to attend St. Francis University in Loretto, Pa where he continued his football playing career and earned a bachelor’s of science degree in business management.

Coach Penna Jr. resides in the Riverside section of Johnstown with his wife Danielle, daughter Alli and son Anthony Jr.
