Special Education

At the Greater Johnstown School District, special education services are driven by a student's Individual Educational Plan. The special education program is highly individualized and flexible to allow eligible students the opportunity to reach their potential. Each student has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and may receive a specially designed program in a Learning Support, Emotional Support, Work Study, and Regular Education Co-taught Math and English Classes depending on the student's individual needs. The Greater Johnstown School District also offers a Lifeskills Program, Apartment Program, and Multi-Disability Program to fit the diverse needs of our students. In order to meet the criteria for special education consideration, a multidisciplinary team completes a comprehensive evaluation and provides recommendations to the Individualized Education Program Team. The IEP team determines the student's eligibility. If the student is determined to need specially designed instruction, the IEP team provides the exceptional student the most appropriate educational program and placement.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania establishes standards and regulations for such placement. If you have any questions, please contact Amie Lumadue, Director of Special Education at 814-533-5670.
