East Side Elementary School

East Side Elementary, formerly known as Meadowvale, is located in the Hornerstown section of Johnstown. The school was built in 1969 and renovated in 1977. The school was again renovated in 1996 to become more user-friendly for teachers and students alike by enclosing all of the open classrooms. The school employs fifty teachers and eight paraprofessionals who serve approximately 760 students from Preschool through fifth grade. Approximately 300 of those students arrive daily as walkers and the remaining students are transported by way of school busses. In addition to Hornerstown, East Side also serves the neighborhoods of the 8th Ward, Belmont, Riverside, Roxbury, Kernville, Moxham, Walnut Grove, and Oakland. Children who attend Eastside Elementary are provided breakfast and lunch daily through Nutrition Incorporated. Greater Johnstown School District houses Delightful Discoveries Day Care as well as before and after School Age Child Care through a partnership with Cambria County Child Development Corporation.
