Greater Johnstown Middle School Spotlight

The Greater Johnstown Middle School has been selected as one of the schools in the state to implement a program titled "Enhancing Education through Technology." The primary goal of Pennsylvania's EETT competitive grant program is to improve student academic achievement through the use of technology in the Commonwealth's elementary and secondary schools.

The Greater Johnstown Middle School offers a strong contingent of rigorous academic courses geared toward developing life long learners and prepared members of a competitive global workforce. The goal is to improve the quality of teaching and learning in today's classrooms through the increased use of technology. This grant will work in connection with Greater Johnstown High's implementation of Classrooms for the Future. Today's global economy requires schools to develop and sustain curriculum and programs that create technological literate students. The Greater Johnstown School District is committed developing technological literate students and to help teachers empower students with the advantages technology can bring. Schools and classrooms, both real and virtual, must have teachers who are equipped with technology resources and skills and who can effectively teach the necessary subject matter content while incorporating technology concepts and skills. Real world connections, primary source material, and sophisticated data-gathering analysis tools, and multi-media presentations, are just some of the ways to help students prepare for the future. The major focus of this project is to utilize technology in the classroom in an effective and efficient manner that leads to and sustains student learning and growth.

This wonderful and exciting project is lead by Mr. Raymond Arcurio. Mrs. Zepka, Mrs. Stephens, Mr. Mikesic, Mrs. Haynal, and Mrs. Truscello are participating teachers in the project.
