1000th Point of Light

"To do a common thing uncommonly well brings about success."

- My favorite quote, at least right now, is one by H. J. Heinz that I found on the back of a ketchup bottle and used in my graduation speech for students at Greater Johnstown High School. It really emphasizes how you can become successful by doing your best and doing it better than those around you.
In 1998 President George H.W. Bush spoke of a thousand points of light, all of the people throughout the Nation, doing good and making a difference.

During our 1000th football game celebration, I began to think about the milestones and achievements of our district and wondered: Do we have our own thousand points of light in Trojan nation? The answer is a resounding YES!

The best piece of advice that I have received is to continue your education. Always continue to learn, because no matter what happens, no one can ever take away what you know and what you can do with that knowledge. Knowledge is power; use it wisely and productively .
Whether it is our 1000th football game, 1000th band member, 1000th teacher hired, or our 1000th PTA member, we know the stories are out there. Our academic achievements, athletics milestones, and extra curricular ativities have made a difference.

We have a proud history that includes teachers, board members, administrators, employees, and alumni. These stories need to be told and we all deserve to hear them. They are part of our history and have helped shape who we are and what GJSD is.

Please take time to visit each school's site to read about each school's points of light! Furthermore, we will continue to publish more points of light through the Trojan Times.

Sincerely,

Barb
