hi this is Amy arcario superintendent of the greater Johnstown School District I have some important information that I'd like to share with our Trojan families as we prepare for students to return to our buildings for the beginning of the 2021 school year the Camp Perry County Emergency Management team has been in each of our buildings this summer deep cleaning and sanitizing using the same protocols if they have used since March 13th and all County building they have been training and teaching our maintenance staff to ensure that we are allocating the same system that they have used with great success throughout the summer we have taken numerous surveys of our families and our teachers to determine what is the best play to deliver education to ensure the safety of all of our community members what we have discovered is that Although our families have overwhelmingly wanted to return to a full face to face traditional model for their students we have been given Direction and recommendation from the governor as of late asking us to please consider the review of a community. where we closely monitor the covid-19 in our community for the past 3 weeks Cambria County has been situated in the moderate category the modern cat based on the governor's recommendation would be for all schools to embrace a hybrid model a traditional face-to-face model would be used and could be used if the status changes to what last night the school board of directors approved a hybrid model for our reopening plan for all students in the greater Johnstown School District based on these recommendations fire. Johnstown High School in Johnstown Middle School will have one day of in-person learning for all of their students followed by four days of virtual learning those students have been broken based on their last name and the administration of those schools will be contacting each and every one of you to make sure you are aware of the day your student will attend their schools Johnstown Elementary School focused on a two-day return for their students well students in Johnstown Elementary School school for 2 days of in-person learning followed by three days of virtual learning during this time all of our teachers will have Daily Office hours within our Google platform to respond to concern questions and give additional support teachers and their students in order to ensure and support their success in the Google learning virtual platform we have been and will continue to work on our Chromebook disc all families in the greater Johnstown School District who opted for a full virtual learning option for their students have been contacted and should have been to either Johnstown High School are essential admin office over the past couple weeks to pick up their Chromebook for their chops in our new hybrid plants we will be Distributing Chromebooks to the rest of our who will be virtual learning on the days they are not face-to-face in our schools with our teachers information regarding the distribution of those Chromebook will be based on family last name initials and you will be called be a robocall based on when you should come to our site either at our Central admin office for the West side of town distribution or Johnstown High School for the east side of town distribution the anticipated distribution days will be next week we will be providing information to very soon we have an awful lot of information that we need to provide to you to make the beginning of our school year as smooth as possible there it is extremely important that you make sure your contact information is correct in all of our school please contact the secretary in those main offices and ask them to update your current cell phone landline information as well as your address you will be required to show proof of your address before we can update our system that's system generates Chromebook distribution emergency contact in the event your child may become sick at school bus routes transportation that information is our only way to connect with you and you are strongly encouraged to make sure the information that you have on file is accurate and up-to-date we recognize that there are some barriers in our communities for some of our families who are not able to access the internet in order to help all of our children have asked we are currently in so hotspots are kind of activity points in all of the Johnstown Housing Authority properties all of our children living in those properties will be able to pick up the Wi-Fi signal and have access to the in compliments of the greater Johnstown School District not only will these Wi-Fi hotspot be critical for student during a during our virtual hybrid learning model but also will benefit them for years to come we also have a star community members and local organizations if they are willing to share their wife I guess passwords we have currently received an overwhelming response from folks in places like the Cambria County Library free weights and aerobics the YMCA Christ Center Church and a variety of other churches really in each and one of our neighborhoods around our community where students again can connect to the Wi-Fi and utilize the guest password we will be sharing that information with you so that you have the access poems that we have created and have partnered with Community leaders around our city not only do we have hotspots and Wi-Fi connection throughout our city but we also have used this summer to end the Bible or the radius around each of our greater Johnstown School District properties so that folks can connect there as well that include Garfield School in the Westside hi everyone my name is Frank frontino I'm the assistant superintendent at the greater Johnstown School District I want to speak to you today briefly about some topics related to the covid-19 pandemic one is our meals since March 13th Dave trotz and his nutrition Ink Crew along with the reason schools have served over a hundred thousand meals to the greater Johnstown School District students these Mills will continue for all virtual Learners until further notice please keep me informed by visiting the greater Johnstown School District website the greater Johnstown school district has been working alongside McIlroy transportation or the past five months on building a plan that would best support our students and transporting them safely to our buildings they have procedures and protocols in place for cleaning the buses a good piece of this that it's very important for parents to remember and understand in our hybrid plan is for the parents to pay particular attention to when their child will report to school on what days and if they are a through F fits please pay close attention to that so your students your children are attending school on their required days and will report to the bus on those days carry file our athletic director and his athletic coordinator Cecilia romesburg along with Chris verbano are athletic trainer for the district all have been working on plans related to Athletics are Athletics will still happen there will be some restrictions parents and players will have to play pay close attention to those restrictions include the wearing of masks fans will not be permitted to attend games but cheerleaders and band members will be permitted do a 10 games except for away games are cheerleaders in our band members will be able to attend our home games the greater Johnstown school district has purchase cameras to film sporting events and these cameras and will record these events and people will be able to subscribe and watch these games virtually at the same time they were being played these are trying times this pandemic is alarming to all of us especially parents because you're going to send your most prized possession to the greater Johnstown school district and you going to leave those children your children in our hands and I can tell you that your children are in the best hands possible our teachers no there there art teachers who care more about our kids and they're the best Educators that can be in front of your children we have to remember that the children are students have not been in front of teachers for 6 months and I have to say that's a long time not to be in front of a teacher and research shows that students in front of teachers that is the most powerful form of Education that there is although you have a choice to use to for your child to become a virtual learner the best possible education is always in front of a teacher with that being said we have to remember that children are learning to read from ages 4 through 8 after that they are reading to learn we need your help if we're only in a hybrid model and your child is on in front of our teachers one or two days a week we have to remember that the parent becomes the teacher at home as always I can't stress this enough how important reading from Reading comes knowledge and from knowledge comes power in the most powerful thing that a parent can do for their child is read to them every day and have their chai read please join us in this effort to help your child become a lifelong learner if you're a parent and you have an issue please contact your teacher first your tea will get you in contact with the right people this may be a counselor it may be a principal but we will we will get you the answers that you seek we are here to help our children I can't stress that enough I please be cognizant of that rather than go to the social media Outlets come to us first and let us try to solve your problems or your issues pandemic has affected everyone children families businesses communities if you have an issue if you have a crush if you need help in any way please reach out to your school counselors they have many many resources available to families please do this and do this often as we we want you to help question us and ask for help we don't hide from this we want to help every child and every family that so if you need any type of service please reach out to our counselors as well as available to all students in the greater Johnstown School District the after-school programming will start on October 5th also if you're a high school student we have we are comprehensive high school so we have the best of both worlds we have academics and we have vocational programming please contact your school counselor at the high school to find out about these programs as well there is the summit program which is a blending learning program another program available to all greater Johnstown School District students is the Morrell neighborhood School picture of that school her name is Chris Baughman and the number of that school is 262-8184 to enroll your child as we all know early childhood literacy gives all children the best start to a great education
